Tent Stakes vs. Earth’s oldest rocks
So, here’s the thing. If you are driving a stake into the ground and it gives you considerable resistance, you are unlikely to get it any further. What you’ve probably done is strike a rock which has been around on the earth for probably a billion years. So, it doesn’t matter how good your stake is. You will lose that battle. This is one reason why taking extra stakes is always a good idea. If you can only get shallow stakes into the ground, a couple of extra stakes and a guy wire can help you secure your tent without going to battle with the Earth’s oldest rocks.
(BTW, if you are camping in the Acasta River area in the Northwest Territories of Canada, you may well have hit the oldest rocks on Earth.)
